- María Emma Mejía Vélez (Medellín, 27 de septiembre de 1953) es una política, periodista y diplomática colombiana. Fue Representante Permanente de Colombia ante las Naciones Unidas en Nueva York. Se desempeñó como Secretaria General de la Unión de Naciones Suramericanas -UNASUR, Ministra de Relaciones Exteriores, Ministra de Educación; Embajadora de Colombia en España y miembro de la Comisión Asesora de Relaciones Exteriores de Colombia. De la misma manera, Mejía fue presidenta Ejecutiva de la Fundación Pies Descalzos por más de una década, organización sin ánimo de lucro fundada por la cantautora colombiana Shakira, además de trabajar como delegada del gobierno en el proceso de paz del Caguán con las FARC, así como en la Comisión de Facilitación Civil con el ELN. Mejía también se postuló para vicepresidente y alcalde de Bogotá. (es)

- María Emma Mejía Vélez (born 27 September 1953) is a Colombian politician, diplomat, and journalist. She was the Permanent Representative of Colombia to the United Nations in New York. She served as Secretary General of the Union of South American Nations, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Education, Ambassador of Colombia to Spain, and member of the Foreign Affairs Advisory Commission of Colombia. Mejía Vélez was also a peace negotiator with FARC and ELN armed groups. For over a decade, she held the post of Executive Director to the Barefoot Foundation, a non-profit founded by Colombian singer-songwriter Shakira. Mejía Vélez also ran for vice-president and for mayor of Bogotá. (en)

Ela já trabalhou no setor público por vários anos como Ministra da Educação e das Relações Exteriores durante o governo de Ernesto Samper, foi nomeada para vice-presidente da República em 1998 junto com e aspirou a ser eleita como prefeita de Bogotá três vezes. Tornou-se integrante do Partido Liberal Colombiano e, posteriormente, do Pólo Democrático Alternativo esquerdista servindo como um membro da Direção Nacional. Mejia preside a Fundação Pés Descalços da cantora colombiana Shakira, conduziu o programa de opinião "Aprenda com Maria Emma" transmitido pela TV Caracol Internacional e faz parte do "Comité Consultivo dos Assuntos Exteriores da Colômbia."
