Max Thurian (16. srpna 1921, Ženeva - 15. srpna 1996 tamtéž) byl švýcarský teolog a řeholník v ekumenické komunitě Taizé. Spolu s Rogerem Schützem byl pozorovatelem na druhém vatikánském koncilu, později konvertoval ke katolicismu a roku 1987 byl v Neapoli vysvěcen na římskokatolického kněze.

Max Thurian war einer der ersten sieben Brüder der Communauté de Taizé und galt als der bedeutendste Theologe der ökumenischen Gemeinschaft. Gemeinsam mit Frère Roger (Schutz) war er Konzilsbeobachter beim Zweiten Vatikanischen Konzil. Thurian arbeitete an der Lima-Erklärung von 1982 mit. Später konvertierte Thurian zum Katholizismus und wurde 1987 in Neapel zum Priester geweiht. Ab 1992 war er Mitglied der päpstlichen Internationalen Theologenkommission. In 1969 he expressed that he was satisfied with the reforms of the Second Vatican Council, under the belief that Protestants could receive Holy Communion along with Roman Catholics. This is false, however, as the Roman Catholic Church forbids non-Catholics from reception of Holy Communion at the Mass. On 12 May 1988 Thurian converted to Roman Catholicism and was ordained a priest. On 24 July 1996 Thurian published an article in L'Osservatore Romano, in which, while maintaining his complete approval for the liturgical reform, he lamented that in its practical implementation there was a risk that the Mass would lose "its character of mystery". Chiesa di Taizè Di religione protestante, fu, assieme a frère Roger, ospite del Segretariato per l'unità dei Cristiani, in quanto teologo dell'ecumenismo, al Concilio Vaticano Secondo. Auspicava che la Comunità di Taizé, di natura prevalentemente protestante, aderisse alla Chiesa cattolica. Aderì alla Chiesa cattolica e il 3 maggio 1987 fu ordinato presbitero dal cardinale Corrado Ursi, arcivescovo di Napoli. Il 30 settembre 1992 fu nominato da Giovanni Paolo II membro della Commissione Teologica Internazionale. La sua vita fu dedicata ai temi ecumenici, condivisa con i fratelli della comunità di Taizè che al momento del suo abbandono chiesero ed ottennero che tornasse ogni tanto alla comunità e che alla sua morte si facesse seppellire nel piccolo cimitero della chiesa romanica di Taizé. Oggi riposa a pochi passi dalla tomba del confratello Roger.
