Es gehört innerhalb des Genre zur Untergruppe der interaktiven Filme, d. h. das Spielgeschehen setzt sich aus einer Zusammenstellung von vorab mit Schauspielern gedrehten Full-Motion-Videos zusammen. Night Trap (En español Trampa nocturna) es un videojuego de terror del subgénero de Horror de supervivencia en formato película interactiva que fue lanzado en Norteamérica el 15 de octubre de 1992 para la consola Sega CD. En Night Trap, el jugador toma el rol de un agente especial encargado de proteger a unas adolescentes haciendo una fiesta de pijamas en una casa que, sin saberlo ellas, está repleta de peligros. El jugador mira videos en directo de lo que está pasando en la casa y puede activar trampas para capturar aquellos que amenazan a las chicas. El jugador puede ir cambiando de cámara de la casa para seguir a las chicas y escuchar sus conversaciones en busca de pistas.. Fue filmado en Culver City, CA durante un período de tres semanas en 1987 y fue desarrollado originalmente para el sistema de videojuegos de Hasbro, que utiliza cintas de VHS en lugar de cartuchos ROM. Sin embargo, cuando Hasbro canceló la producción de NEMO, el material fue archivado hasta que fue comprado en 1991 por los fundadores de . Night Trap is a 1992 interactive movie developed by Digital Pictures and published by Sega for the Sega CD. Presented primarily through full-motion video (FMV), Night Trap tasks the player to observe teenage girls having a sleepover visiting a house which, unbeknownst to them, is infested with vampires. The player watches live surveillance footage and triggers traps to capture anyone endangering the girls. The player can switch between different cameras to keep watch over the girls and eavesdrop on conversations to follow the story and listen for clues. The Night Trap concept originated in a 1986 prototype game developed by Axlon to demonstrate their Control-Vision game console to Hasbro. The system used VHS tape technology to present film-like gaming experiences. With the system picked up by Hasbro, the production of Night Trap commenced. The video footage was recorded in 1987, followed by six months of editing and game programming. Hasbro suddenly canceled the Control-Vision in 1989, which prompted the game's executive producer, Tom Zito, to purchase the film footage and found Digital Pictures to complete Night Trap. Night Trap was eventually released in October 1992 as the first interactive movie on the Sega CD. Night Trap received mixed reviews; critics praised the B movie-esque quality, humor, and video animation, but criticized the gameplay as shallow. The game was one of the principal subjects of a 1993 United States Senate committee hearing on violent video games, along with Mortal Kombat. Night Trap was cited during the hearing as promoting gratuitous violence and sexual aggression against women, prompting toy retailers Toys "R" Us and Kay-Bee Toys to pull the game from shelves that December, and Sega to cease producing copies in January 1994. The Senate hearing led to the creation of the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB), the North American video game ratings board still used today. After the controversy subsided, Night Trap was ported to other consoles, including the 32X, 3DO Interactive Multiplayer, MS-DOS, and Mac OS. It was re-released in 2017 and 2018 for eighth-generation consoles to mark its 25th anniversary. Son contenu ambigu lui valut les foudres de sénateurs américains qui voulurent l'interdire.Ce jeu est un film interactif qui préfigurait ce qu’auraient pu être les prochaines productions sur CD-ROM. En France, Sega avait envisagé de livrer ce jeu avec la console en septembre 1993. Mais la sortie française avait été repoussée de plusieurs mois jusque avril 1994 afin notamment de doubler les voix en français. En septembre 1993, le Mega-CD était finalement livré avec le jeu Road Avenger. Une nouvelle version est sortie aux États-Unis en 1993 et en 1995 en France, celle-ci nécessitant en plus du Mega-CD l'extension matérielle 32X. Une réédition avec des vidéos de meilleure qualité a été annoncée par le détenteur des droits du jeu au mois de mai 2014. (fr)

O jogador pode alternar livremente sua visão entre diferentes câmeras para vigiar as meninas e escutar conversas para acompanhar a história e ouvir pistas. Críticas iniciais de Night Trap no Sega CD foram mistas. Ficou notável por ser o primeiro filme interativo no sistema e, portanto, foi visto como uma inovação em gênero e tecnologia.
