North Pontianak (Indonesian: Pontianak Utara) is a district (Indonesian:kecamatan) of the city of Pontianak. It lies on the north bank of the Kapuas Besar River (west of the confluence to between the Kapuas Kecil River and the Landak River, which join to form the Kapuas Besar River) and covers an area of 37.22 km2. It had a population of 112,577 at the 2010 census; the latest official estimate of population (as at mid 2019) is 130,344. This is the largest district by area and also the district with lowest population density in Pontianak. List of famous places in North Pontianak:

Di kecamatan inilah, Tugu Khatulistiwa berada. Kecamatan Pontianak Utara saat ini terbagi menjadi empat kelurahan, yakni Batu Layang, Siantan Hilir, Siantan Tengah, dan Siantan Hulu. Pada tanggal 14 Juli 2008, disahkan Perda Kota Pontianak No. 12 Tahun 2008 yang memekarkan Pontianak Utara menjadi delapan kelurahan, yakni Siantan Hulu, Parit Pangeran, Siantan Tengah, Selat Panjang, Siantan Hilir, Sungai Selamat, Batu Layang Timur, dan Batu Layang Barat. Namun hingga kini, pemekaran itu belum dapat terealisasi. Bahasa resmi kecamatan Pontianak Utara adalah bahasa Indonesia, Tio Ciu, Jepang dan Mandarin. (in) |
