عمر الزعني (1895-1961) كان شاعرًا ومغنيًا لبنانيًا بارزًا. عُرف باستخدام فنه للنقد والثورة ضد الظلم الاجتماعي عبر مختلف المراحل التاريخية والسياسية في بلاده، وخاصة في العصر العثماني والانتداب الفرنسي على لبنان. ونتيجة لذلك، لقب بـ «شاعر الشعب» و«ابن البلد» و«فولتير العرب» و«موليير الشرق»، و«كان له ذلك على مدى نصف قرن في بيروت، من تأليف شعري - موسيقي، وغناء شعبي مباشر». كانت أشعاره، التي ألقاها من خلال الأغاني والألحان، تُكتب عادة باللغة المحكية (العامية)، حتى يتمكن الناس من مختلف الخلفيات التعليمية من قراءتها وفهمها. ولا يزال فنه سائدًا وشائعًا حتى يومنا هذا، وقد وضع المخرج اللبناني سمير يوسف فيلما وثائقياً عن حياته.

He was known for using his art to criticize and revolt against social injustice throughout the different historical and political stages in his country, especially the Ottoman empire occupation and French mandate of Lebanon. As a result, he was referred to as the "poet of the people", "son of the country", "Arab Voltaire", and "Molière of the East". His poems, which he delivered through songs and melodies, were usually written in spoken Arabic, so that they could be read and understood by people of different educational backgrounds.
