The Prosecutor-General of Sweden (Swedish: Riksåklagaren) is the department head for the Swedish Prosecution Authority responsible for the daily operations, the highest-ranked prosecutor in the country, and the only public prosecutor in the Supreme Court. The Office of the Prosecutor-General (Swedish: Riksåklagarens kansli) is responsible for legal development, the agency's operations in the Supreme Court, and administrative tasks. The Legal Department of the Prosecutor-General (Swedish: rättsavdelningen) has an overall responsibility for the operations in the Supreme Court and key international issues. The office was established in 1948, when the Chancellor of Justice's task as chief prosecutor was transferred to the Prosecutor-General.

Riksåklagaren har exklusiv behörighet att som allmän åklagare föra talan i Högsta domstolen (HD) och är den enda som kan fatta beslut om att fullfölja ett åtal till HD. Riksåklagaren kan när som helst överta mål som väckts av lägre åklagare, till exempel därför att målet är komplicerat eller av principiell betydelse. Överprövning av beslut att inte väcka åtal görs i sista hand av riksåklagaren. Ämbetet inrättades 1948 och övertog då delar av justitiekanslerns och länsstyrelsernas tidigare funktioner i fråga om åtal av brott och åklagarväsendet.
