Reactions to the 2014 Hong Kong protests (original) (raw)
The 2014 Hong Kong protests protested the 2014–15 Hong Kong electoral reform enacted by the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of China. While Pro-democracy groups argued that the police used excessive force, Pro-Beijing advocates disputed this claim. Some who supported Beijing argued that the protestors violated the rule of law. Several nations and international bodies, including the United Nations Human Rights Commission, supported the protestors, and the Western media took an interest in the protests. However, Russia spoke out against the protests.
