The Scottish Football Writers' Association Young Player of the Year (often called the SFWA Young Player of the Year, or simply the Scottish Young Player of the Year) award is given to the footballer in the Scottish football league system, who is seen to have been the best young (under 23) player of the previous season. The shortlist is compiled by the members of the Scottish Football Writers' Association (the SFWA), who also vote for the winner. Список номинантов составляется членами (ШАФЖ) (англ. SFWA), которая включает в себя более ста представителей прессы, работающих по всей стране. Затем лауреат награды определяется путём голосования представителями шотландских СМИ. Приз был впервые вручён по итогам сезона 2001/02, первым победителем стал бывший в то время представителем команды «Мотеруэлл», а ныне защищающий цвета «Сент-Джонстона», Джеймс Макфадден. За свою недолгую историю приз всего лишь раз вручался футболисту с нешотландским гражданством — в 2003 году награды удостоился грузин Зураб Хизанишвили. В 2004 году лауреатом стал вратарь Крейг Гордон. Пока это остаётся единственным случаем, когда приз «Лучшему молодому игроку» присудили футболисту этого амплуа.
