Το Σαμοθήριο είναι εξαφανισμένο είδος που υπάγεται στο γένος της καμηλοπάρδαλης και έζησε την εποχή του Μειόκαινου και Πλειόκαινου στην Ευρώπη, Ασία και Αφρική. Ήταν μεγάλο θηλαστικό με μακριά πόδια και ένα ζευγάρι κέρατα σαν της καμηλοπάρδαλης. Το όνομά του οφείλεται στο νησί της Σάμου, διότι τα απολιθωμένα οστά του ήταν γνωστά στους αρχαίους Έλληνες, που όμως λανθασμένα τα ερμήνευαν ως οστά τεράτων. Βουκράνιο Σαμοθηρίου συναντάμε σε αρχαία ελληνική αγγειογραφία που εικονίζει τον Ηρακλή να πολεμάει θηρίο.

The genus is closely related to Shansitherium. Fossil evidence suggests that Samotherium had a rounded muzzle, which would suggest a grazing lifestyle and a habitat composed of grassland.
