Sharitahrish was the principal chief or head man of the Grand Pawnees (main body of the Pawnee nation). He was descended from a line of chiefs and, according to the law of descents, which selects the next of kin who is worthy of succession, succeeded his elder brother, (Long Hair or Big Hair).
