Le village est situé de l'autre côté de la vallée de Gabhra, près de la colline de Tara. Cette vallée est parfois appelée la Vallée Tara-Skryne. La colline de Skryne est plus haute que la colline de Tara. Vers 1170, Hugh de Lacy, seigneur de Meath, accorda Skryne à Adam de Feypo dont les descendants utilisèrent le titre coutumier de Baron Skryne. About 1170 Hugh de Lacy, Lord of Meath granted Skryne to Adam de Feypo, whose descendants used the customary title Baron Skryne, which was not a peerage in the strict sense. A 15th-century church, known locally as Skryne tower or The Steeple, remains in good condition at the top of the hill and is visible from a large area of Meath.
