Ներսես Շնորհալի; около 1100 замок Цовк, область Цопк — 13 августа 1173) — армянский поэт и общественный деятель, католикос (1166—1173) Армянской апостольской церкви. Один из наиболее значимых армянских поэтов, В. Брюсов сравнивал его творчество с Верленом. Святой Армянской Апостольской и Римско-католической церквей.

Pahlawuni wurde 1113 zum Katholikos gewählt und gesalbt. Nerses Schnorhali wurde 1120 von jenem zum Priester und 1125 zum Bischof geweiht. Nach seiner Erhebung zum Katholikos 1166 führte er die ökumenischen Gespräche seines Bruders mit der byzantinischen und lateinischen Kirche fort. L'Église apostolique arménienne l'a canonisé. Elle le célèbre le deuxième samedi d'octobre en même temps que Grégoire de Narek et les saints Traducteurs. L'Église catholique romaine le considère également comme un saint mais ne lui attribue pas de fête particulière. Cependant, il peut être célébré le 13 août. Nersès IV est un auteur important dans l'histoire de la littérature arménienne. Il est parfois appelé le "Homère arménien" et figure, avec Moïse de Khorène, Agathange et surtout Grégoire de Narek, comme l'un des plus importants auteurs arméniens médiévaux. En plus de son oeuvre littéraire, Nersès IV est connu pour ses tentatives d'union entre l'Eglise arménienne et l'Eglise orthodoxe, qui atteindront leur point culminant sous son catholicossat, et se poursuivront sous celui de son neveu, et successeur, Grégoire IV. Il est aussi l'auteur d'une profession de foi, envoyée à l'empereur byzantin Michel VIII, qui développe les points théologiques suivis par l'Eglise arménienne. Dans cette profession, Nersès condamne l'iconoclasme, le monophysisme, le monothélisme et d'autres écoles théologiques qu'il considère comme hérétiques. A more precise translation of his epithet Shnorhali is "filled with Grace". He received the appellation Shnorhali from his contemporaries because of the very irenic quality of his writing. During his time as a bishop and, later, as Catholicos of the Armenian Church, Nerses worked to bring about reconciliation with the Eastern Orthodox Church, and convened a council with emissaries selected by the Byzantine Emperor himself to discuss how they might be able to reunite the two churches. The terms the emperor offered were, however, unacceptable to both Nerses and the Armenian Church, and the negotiations collapsed. Nerses is remembered as a theologian, poet, writer and hymn composer. He has been called "the Fénelon of Armenia" for his efforts to draw the Armenian church out of isolation, and has been recognized as a saint by the Catholic Church, which holds his feast on August 13, and by the Armenian Apostolic Church, who celebrate him in mid-October on the Saturday of the Fourth Week of the Holy Cross. W historii zapisał się przede wszystkim jako czołowy liryk ormiański, autor poematu lirycznego Jezus, Syn jedyny Ojca, uważanego za jedno z arcydzieł średniowiecznej epiki europejskiej, które stawia Nersesa w jednym rzędzie z Dantem czy Miltonem; w dystychu elegijnym zawarł on całe biblijne dzieje zbawienia, opatrując je wstawkami modlitewnymi i pokutnymi. Jednocześnie przyczynił się on do ożywienia literackiego języka ormiańskiego poprzez wprowadzenie do wzniosłego stylu zwrotów przejętych z mowy ludowej, był nowatorem formy poetyckiej, udoskonalił i zakorzenił rym w narodowym pieśniarstwie. Napisał także szereg pieśni do dziś wykorzystywanych w niedzielnej liturgii. Przez długi czas nieznany w Polsce, został przetłumaczony przez ks. Marka Starowieyjskiego oraz Jerzego Litwiniuka.
