دورة حياة التقنية أو (بالإنجليزية: Technology life cycle) تقوم بوصف المكاسب التجارية للإنتاج من خلال مرحلتي حساب البحث والتطوير، وحساب العائد من خلال مفهوم«الحياة الحيوية». بعض التقنيات، مثل الفولاذ والورق وتصنيع الإسمنت، لها دورة حياة طويلة الأجل (مع وجود اختلافات طفيفة في التقنية التي تتحد مع مرور الوقت) بينما في حالات أخرى كالمنتجات الإلكترونية أو الصيدلانية قد يكون عمرها الافتراضي قصير جدا.

En la primera etapa, només es troba a la disposició de pocs consumidors, per després arribar a ser coneguda per tot el mercat, en l'última etapa la tecnologia està saturada i esgotada com a producte comercial. És per l'anterior que es pot afirmar que cada tecnologia té un cicle de vida, que es diferencia en la durada de cada etapa i això va depenent de les característiques i el sector on es distribueixi.Per analitzar els cicles de les tecnologies es crea una corba anomenada "S" per la seva forma en la gràfica i amb això s'aconsegueix identificar la durada de cada període, depenent de la tecnologia analitzada. The product of the technology may be a commodity such as polyethylene plastic or a sophisticated product like the integrated circuits used in a smartphone. The development of a competitive product or process can have a major effect on the lifespan of the technology, making it shorter. Equally, the loss of intellectual property rights through litigation or loss of its secret elements (if any) through leakages also work to reduce a technology's lifespan. Thus, it is apparent that the management of the TLC is an important aspect of technology development. Most new technologies follow a similar technology maturity lifecycle describing the technological maturity of a product. This is not similar to a product life cycle, but applies to an entire technology, or a generation of a technology. Technology adoption is the most common phenomenon driving the evolution of industries along the industry lifecycle. After expanding new uses of resources they end with exhausting the efficiency of those processes, producing gains that are first easier and larger over time then exhaustingly more difficult, as the technology matures. O ciclo começa no ponto em que artefatos precursores da tecnologia em questão podem ser identificados, porém ainda não estão reunidos sob a forma de uma nova tecnologia. Isso leva a algum indivíduo, o inventor, a juntá-los de alguma forma e dar vida à nova tecnologia. Essa nova invenção é desenvolvida e aperfeiçoada até atingir um estado de maturidade e alcançar o grande público. Devido ao sucesso e a difusão dessa tecnologia, começam a surgir novos pretendentes a concorrerem com ela, porém, inicialmente apresentam algumas inconveniências que os impedem de se popularizar.
