Ο Τείθρας ή Τιθράς ή η Τείθρα (αρχαία ελληνικά: Τείθρας), (ο δήμος: Τειθρασίων) ήταν αρχαίος οικισμός - πόλη και δήμος της Αιγηίδας (περιοχή της Αρχαίας Αττικής και φυλή της αρχαίας Αθήνας).

As evidenced by the discovery of a sacred calendar, the deme revered Athena, Zeus, Heracles, Kore, and the heroes Datylus and Teithras. There was also a sanctuary of Dionysus, in which theatrical performances took place. In ancient times the dried figs produced in this deme were famous. In The Frogs by Aristophanes, the "Gorgons of Teithras" are characters invented by Aeacus to scare Dionysus. The playwright probably referred to the women of the deme, who were considered terrible and ugly by contemporary Athenians. Its site is located near modern Pikermi. Nel demo, come attestato dal ritrovamento di un calendario sacro, erano venerati Atena, Zeus Ctonio, Eracle, gli eroi Datilo e Titra, quest'ultimo figlio del re dell'Attica Pandione. C'era inoltre un santuario di Dioniso, in cui si svolgevano delle rappresentazioni teatrali. Nell'antichità erano famosi i fichi secchi prodotti in questo demo. Nel demo sono stati trovati numerosi decreti sulle leggi riguardanti la proprietà, tra cui uno indicante i doveri del demarco. Nelle Rane di Aristofane compaiono le "gorgoni di Titra", personaggi inventati da Eaco per spaventare Dioniso. Il commediografo probabilmente faceva riferimento alle donne del demo, che erano considerate dagli Ateniesi terribili e brutte. (it) |
