Tombos ist ein Ort und eine Insel im heutigen Sudan am 3. Nilkatarakt. Der Ort ist die südlichste Siedlung in Nubien, in der Ägypter als Kolonisatoren um 1550 v. Chr. lebten. In den Felsen am Nil fanden sich diverse historisch wichtige ägyptische Inschriften und Felszeichnungen.

Tanto la aldea como la isla están situadas en la tercera catarata del Nilo a 20 km al norte de Kerma. En Tombos se han encontrado una gran variedad de inscripciones faraónicas talladas en la roca durante Dinastía XVIII de Egipto. Cerca del pueblo de Tombos se encuentra una importante cantera de granito negro de la época faraónica. The occupation of Tombos revealed by archaeological work began at mid-18th Dynasty of Egypt and continued through the 25th Dynasty. In the New Kingdom period, Tombos was the southernmost colonial settlement of Egypt. A large range of pharaonic and private royal inscriptions from 18th Dynasty and the elite tombs in Egyptian style indicates Tombos was an important node of the Egyptian colonial control. In the New Kingdom period, Tombos marked an internal boundary of the direct and indirect control of the Egyptian empire and witnessed the blending and entanglement of Egyptian and Nubian traditions.
