USS Albatross (MSC-289) was the lead ship of the coastal minesweeper acquired by the U.S. Navy for clearing coastal minefields. The sixth ship to be named Albatross by the navy, MSC-289 was laid down on 26 February 1959 by Tacoma Boatbuilding Company, Tacoma, Washington, launched on 22 March 1960; sponsored by Mrs. S. A. Peters, and commissioned at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard on 20 April 1961.
