Le Vintisme désigne le mouvement politique qui domine le Portugal entre août 1820 et avril 1823, caractérisé par le radicalisme des idées libérales et la domination des Cortes constituantes. Il va donner naissance à la Constitution de 1822. Ce mouvement débute après le coup d'État militaire du 24 août 1820 qui conduit à la formation de la Junte Provisoire du Gouvernement Suprême du Royaume présidée par António da Silveira Pinto da Fonseca. Ce mouvement favorable à une monarchie constitutionnelle va donner naissance au septembrisme, qui lui-même, après 1851, va donner naissance à un vrai parti, le Parti progressiste historique, dans lequel on retrouvera le Parti réformiste. It gave birth to the Portuguese Constitution of 1822. The Vintist political stances were advanced for their time and mobilized the liberal left for most of the rest of the 19th century. They demanded the end of absolute monarchy and the return of King John VI from Brazil, from where he had been ruling the country since Napoleonic forces had invaded Lisbon in 1807; they appealed to the King to work together with the social forces represented in Parliament. The Vintist movement started after the revolution of 24 August 1820 that swiftly replaced the protectorate of William Beresford with a Provisional Junta and Constituent Assembly composed of diplomatic functionaries, merchants, agrarian burghers, and university-educated representatives who were usually lawyers. Vintism ended with the Vilafrancada on 27 May 1823, a military uprising led by Prince Miguel that led to the abolishment of the 1822 Constitution and the reestablishment of absolute monarchy. (en) Vintismo é a designação genérica dada à situação política que dominou Portugal entre Agosto de 1820 e Abril de 1823, caracterizada pelo radicalismo das soluções liberais e pelo predomínio político das Cortes Constituintes, fortemente influenciadas pela Constituição Espanhola de Cádis. O vintismo iniciou-se com o pronunciamento militar do Porto de 24 de Agosto de 1820, que conduziu à formação da Junta Provisional do Governo Supremo do Reino presidida pelo brigadeiro António da Silveira Pinto da Fonseca, e terminou com a Vilafrancada, quando a 27 de Maio de 1823 o infante D. Miguel encabeça, em Vila Franca de Xira, uma sublevação militar que leva à abolição da Constituição Política da Monarquia Portuguesa de 1822 e ao restabelecimento, ainda que mitigado, do absolutismo. As políticas vintistas eram avançadas para a sua época, sendo durante boa parte do século XIX português um elemento mobilizador e congregador da esquerda liberal que sempre tentou, depois do termo da Guerra Civil, o restauro das soluções constitucionais de 1822. O objectivo deste movimento era regenerar a pátria, apelando à aliança do rei com as forças sociais representadas nas Cortes. Da convocação destas novas cortes esperava-se uma sábia constituição, propiciadora de uma governação justa e eficaz.
