(ar) Walter Boas (* 10. Februar 1904 in Berlin; † 12. Mai 1982 in Melbourne, Australien) war ein deutsch-australischer Physiker. Boas studierte von 1922 bis 1927 an der Technischen Hochschule Charlottenburg. 1930 wurde er mit der Arbeit Über die Temperaturabhängigkeit der Kristallplastizität zum Dr-Ing. promoviert. Von 1930 bis 1932 arbeitete er am Kaiser-Wilhelm-Institut für Metallforschung in Berlin. 1933 musste er emigrieren. Anschließend arbeitete er von 1933 bis 1935 an der Universität Freiburg (Schweiz), 1936/37 an der ETH Zürich und 1937/38 an der Royal Institution of Great Britain in London. 1938 siedelte er nach Australien über, wurde dort 1940 Professor der physikalischen Metallurgie an der Universität Melbourne und war von 1947 bis 1969 bei der Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) tätig. (de) Walter Moritz Boas FAA (10 February 1904 – 12 May 1982) was a German-Australian metallurgist. Boas was born in Berlin, Germany and was educated at the Berlin Institute of Technology (Dip. Engin. 1928, Dr.-Ing. 1930). After several positions at German and Swiss institutions, Boas became a lecturer in metallurgy at University of Melbourne in 1938; then from 1940 to 1947, senior lecturer. From 1947 to 1949, Boas was principal research officer, CSIR Division of Tribophysics; and from 1949 to 1969 chief of the division.
