Tras las obras de apertura completa del canal de Deusto, Zorrozaurre se transformó oficialmente de península en isla el lunes 8 de octubre de 2018 a las 13:10, siendo llamada a ser la "Manhattan" de Bilbao y la última gran operación de regeneración urbana puesta en marcha en la villa, tras Abandoibarra. Appelée la "Manhattan" de Bilbao, elle est la dernière grande opération de revitalisation urbaine mise en œuvre par la ville, après Abandoibarra. Zorrotzaurre était une zone en constante baisse, tant au niveau industriel qu'au niveau social depuis les années 1970. Son aire urbaine occupe une surface totale de 838 781 m², dont la moitié appartient à des organismes publiques (Gouvernement basque, Mairie de Bilbao et Autorité Portuaire de Bilbao), et en se répartissant le reste entre les divers propriétaires privés.
