Eine Schonerbark ist ein Großsegler, den man auch als Barkentine (früher eine Schonerbark mit Rahtopp am Großmast), Hermaphrodit-Bark (Zwitter-Bark; engl. hermaphrodite barque oder barquentine) oder seltener als Barkschoner bezeichnet. Es handelt sich dabei um eine Mischtakelung aus Rah- und Schratsegeln, also einem Mischtyp aus Bark und Schoner. Der (vordere) Fockmast muss voll rahgetakelt sein, die übrigen Masten tragen Schoner- oder Gaffelsegel. Diese Takelungsart wurde um 1800 entwickelt. Ein moderner Vertreter dieses Schiffstyps ist das chilenische Segelschulschiff Esmeralda. Sie trägt am Fockmast nur Rahsegel, an den übrigen drei Masten Gaffelgroßsegel, Gaffeltoppsegel und Stagsegel (dreieckige Schratsegel). Ihre Werftschwester Juan Sebastián de Elcano, das spanische Segelschulschiff, ist demgegenüber ein Viermastmarssegelschoner. (Dreimast)-Bramsegelschoner (mit Untermast und Bramstenge) und (Dreimast)-Marssegelschoner (auch Toppsegelschoner genannt, mit Untermast, Bramstenge und Marsstenge) stellen nach Takelungsart und Bauweise des Fockmastes stets Schoner-Varianten dar, sofern ein Gaffelsegel am Fockmast angeschlagen ist (alle Masten mit Gaffelsegel). Ohne Gaffelsegel am Fockmast, also reine Rahtakelung dort, ist es eine Schonerbark-Variante, z. B. mit Großrahtopp und reiner Rahtakelung am Fockmast wäre es eine (Dreimast)-Bramsegelschonerbark (Bramstenge) oder (Dreimast)-Marssegelschonerbark (Mars- und Bramstenge). Es gab Schonerbarken mit drei, vier (die Viermastbarkentinen Mozart (1904) und Beethoven (1904)), fünf (die US-Schiffe County of Vicksburgh, Marsala) und sogar sechs Masten. Zur letzteren gehörte die Cidade do Porto (ex Viermastbark Hans) und die E. R. Sterling, ursprünglich als eisernes Viermastvollschiff Lord Wolseley 1883 gebaut, später (1898) in eine Viermastbark, nach Entmastung (1903) zur Sechsmastbarkentine umgeriggt.
