Final Fantasy's Rhythm Hits 3DS - IGN (original) (raw)
Final Fantasy is coming to the Nintendo 3DS. Don't get too excited, RPG fans. Square Enix's latest product isn't your typical fare (or genre) for the series. Titled "Theatrhythm Final Fantasy," the new Final Fantasy game is actually a rhythm-based battle game, featuring cute, chibi-esque versions of iconic franchise characters.
Revealed in the latest issue of Jump, and translated by our friends over at Andriasang, Theatrhythm will feature traditional overworld exploration in fields as well as combat in dungeons. Battles will be driven entirely by time-based commands via buttons and the touch screen.
The game's visual style is very much similar to what was seen in Kingdom Hearts Mobile (think very primitive, chibi-style designs), albeit with a slightly more 3D presentation of the characters. Franchise favorites like Cloud and Rain will be featured in the game, and apparently there is some sort of story element to the title.
We're seeing reports that Theatrhythm is being developed by Jupiter, the developer responsible for Pokemon Pinball, Picross DS and The World Ends With You. We have yet to see confirmation of this from a major outlet.
Currently there is no release date for Theatrhythm. Andriasang speculates that next week's Famitsu magazine might shed some more light on the title. Stay tuned for more.
