Toki Tori, Take 2! - IGN (original) (raw)

More than a half decade ago, Two Tribes -- of recent note, the developers of the incredibly good Worms: Open Warfare 2 for the Nintendo DS -- created a quirky little platforming puzzle game for the Game Boy Color starring a rolypoly bird: Toki Tori. Capcom was the publisher.
As good as the game was (we gave it an Editor's Choice award for its innovative and fun design), the timing of Capcom's release couldn't have been worse: we were already engulfed in the much more impressive Game Boy Advance platform. Players had lept off the Game Boy Color system like the sinking ship it was, and while it was fully playable on the GBA platform, unless it had "Game Boy Advance" emblazeoned on the packaging, retailers and consumers weren't biting...especially if it wasn't a licensed property.

Two Tribes announced this week that it will give Toki Tori new wings, and to celebrate this announcement the company cut together a rendered trailer that shows off the dramatic change from the 8-bit system to...well, a platform or platforms unknown at this point.

The trailer indicates a system that can handle somewhat higher resolution visuals, but Two Tribes isn't talking quite yet. We're going to make this assumption: it started its life as a portable game, and it will continue its legacy as one.

Nintendo DS? PSP? Stay tuned.
