Catalog Description: Survey of models and theories of users and their use of computer equipment; emphasizes conditions of application for various approaches. Prerequisites: Graduate standing; (3H, 3C). I.
Course Objective: The course prepares students to search, integrate, and apply the human-computer interaction (HCI) research literatures. From an academic standpoint, the course emphasizes analysis of strengths and limitations of various theoretical frameworks in HCI to prepare students for designing original research and writing theses and/or dissertations. From an applied standpoint, the course provides a foundation of basic knowledge for planning and carrying out HCI development projects.
Format and Approach: The course consists of lectures, discussion of reading assignments, and one or more group projects.
