Samuel Sheparo
SHEPARO, Samuel, clergyman, born in Salisbury, Massachusetts, 22 June, 1739; died in Brentwood, New Hampshire, 4 November, 1815. At the age of sixteen he removed to New Hampshire, and after studying medicine settled in Brentwood, where he soon won reputation in his profession. In 1770 he united with a Baptist church, and in 1771 he was ordained to the ministry. He preached through a wide extent of country, and in his double office of minister and physician looked after the cure of both soul and body. While pastor of the church at Brentwood he had the oversight of several other churches that were branches of this central body. He was thus a sort of Baptist diocesan bishop. No man in the history of his denomination in New Hampshire was better known in his day. He published several tracts, chiefly relating to baptism.
