Feb 2016 UF Challenge - Hearts for Anna by Ultra-Fractal-Redux on DeviantArt (original) (raw)
As most of you will know the original founder of this group, AnnaKirsten, sadly passed away on January 5th this year. She very much enjoyed bringing this group to life and put much of her time and energies into making it a place where Ultra Fractal artists could come together and learn from each other. We thought it would nice to merge a heart themed challenge with a special event for this month, to remember and celebrate the life of our founder and friend. With that aim our challenge for February will be to create some "Hearts for Anna".
The rules are fairly straight forward:
All entries MUST feature one or more heart shapes. This can be a repeating trap shape, a single prominent heart or a heart shaped frame, whatever you are inspired to do or can find!
Note: Submissions with no visible heart-like structure will be declined.
In your comments you MUST include a link to this journal or to Ultra-Fractal-Redux.
If you wish to add a few personal words about what Anna meant to you or a short tribute then please do so.
If you did not know Anna very well or do not wish to do this then that is fine too, just submit a heart themed image as normal.
A few other standard rules apply - these are listed below and are also important. Please read them before submitting to check that your image qualifies!
Tips for this challenge:
Heart shapes can be made in a number of ways in UF:
Orbit Traps (UF3) Outside colouring (dmj3.ucl) - heart 2 trap shape
Trapestry Outside colouring (jam2.ucl) - Coordinate Type: Parametric + function1: log(sin+cos)
Orbit Traps Gradient (UF5) Outside colouring (dmj5.ucl) with any of the following trap shape plugins:
- Burnside Curve from reb.ulb
- Hoerl Function from reb.ulb
- Klein Quartic from reb.ulb
- Stirrup Curve from reb.ulb
- Weibull Curve from reb.ulb
- SSG (Shape #39) from rkb.ulb
There probably other colourings or function combinations that also produce heart-like shapes. If so, why not share your method so we can all learn! We encourage parameter sharing for our challenges so do please consider this, or perhaps share a simple layer showing your method if you think this might help others. Put your params in your artist comments or link to them in your Sta.sh. A tutorial on how to do this can be found here: LINK.
If, after all this you are still having trouble getting started then do check out our Hearts with parameters gallery here: LINK.
There are plenty of examples there to examine and learn from... this is why sharing parameters is a Good Thing, folks!
Be sure to credit your sources if you use someone else's parameters as a starting point, the artists concerned usually love to see what others make from their params!
At the end of the challenge we will ask the group members to vote on their favourite pieces and from that we will compile a special feature.
Those entries featuring a tribute to Anna will be added to our special remembrance gallery.
Entries from artists at all levels of ability are welcome and stand an equal chance of being highlighted so please don't be shy... join us!
Above all enjoy the challenge, push yourself, twiddle those parameters, learn and have fun!!
Challenge Rules - Please read these carefully.

As always, only formulas from the Public database are acceptable if you intend to share your parameters.
