The FIFA World Cup All-Star Team, currently sponsored by MasterCard, consists of 23 players chosen by FIFA’s technical study group. The players are chosen from the teams competing in the FIFA World Cup finals for their excellence in the position they play for the national team. The number of players chosen for the All-Star Team was increased from 11 to 16 in 1998 and then later on increased again to the current 23. The technical study group that chooses the players for the All-Star team comprises of European and South American sports journalists. Brazil has the highest number of players in the All-Star teams with 34 different Brazilian players named in the All-Star teams and with a record 42 nominees.
