- La politique agricole commune (PAC) est une politique mise en place à l'échelle de l'Union européenne. À l'origine, elle est fondée principalement sur des mesures de contrôle des prix et de subventionnement, visant à moderniser et développer l'agriculture. Elle est gerée par la Direction Générale « Agriculture et développement rural » de la Commission européenne. Au niveau français, elle est exécutée principalement via deux offices agricoles sous tutelle du Ministère de l'Agriculture (l'Agence de services et de paiement et France AgriMer). Prévue par le traité de Rome du 25 mars 1957 et entrée en vigueur le 30 juillet 1962, la PAC a, depuis, beaucoup évolué. Elle consiste aujourd'hui en deux piliers : le premier pilier, un soutien du marché, des prix et des revenus agricoles, et le second pilier, le développement rural, nommé ainsi en 1999. (fr)
