Head Badass in Charge, Round #6 (original) (raw)

Down to the poll option limit! This is probably more exciting for me than anyone else. ;)

Round 6:

A quick reminder of the rules:

1. One vote per person. This wasn't such a big deal in the nomination round, since those characters would have made it to the poll anyway, and the enthusiasm was kind of cute. *g* But now that we're actually voting, no socks or RP journals, yeah? Obviously this'll be tough for me to police, but let's all be cool.

2. As I mentioned in my previous entry, please keep in mind that this poll is strictly a popularity contest, not a referendum on which character is really the best. See the nomination post. for my Thoughts On This Subject. *g* And the popularity itself is just a quirk of who happens to be reading my journal on a given day.

3. To that end, no disparaging comments about any of the nominees! No "how can SHE still be on the list if SHE got kicked off," no nothing.

4. Also, no feeling sad if your favorite gets eliminated? Remember, they wouldn't be on here in the first place if multiple people didn't think they were totally kickass.

I know that all sounds very "everybody gets a trophy," but seriously, with this list? Everybody gets a frakking trophy. :D

This week's first Head Badass in Charge is Eowyn, appreciation post by ivanolix:

Eowyn of the Shield-Arm is a tough chick in a world where that doesn't show up so often. Think it's hard enough in the modern age? Try a world where no one's quite sure what women's rights are. Thankfully, that doesn't matter so much to Eowyn. Growing up parentless in a nation which is slowly decaying, trained in war skills but not allowed to use them, and being stalked by a master of evil persuasion, it's a wonder she turned out as on top of things as she did. But though her people love her, and she's admired by those who meet her, most of the time she's brushed to the side, and this has left her with a fierce yearning for true notice. She's given power and complete trust, but she longs for glory.

And when it looks like the world's ending, and once again she's only entrusted with home defense, she decides she's had enough of it. Despairing of life in general before the world ends, she dons the armor of a man, pauses to help another ignored soul, and charges into battle to fight in a way she thinks is meaningful. When the time comes, she stands up to one of the most fearsome creatures in all of Middle-earth, one that sends most brave warriors quaking and losing their lunch as soon as they're safely away. Does she care? No, she's there to protect her father-figure, and she won't let anything stand in her way. Underestimated for the last time, she spends her last energy killing a being that was thought unkillable, fulfilling a prophecy that had been around for thousands of years.

Of course, she nearly dies in the process, and is not happy with being stuck in recovery while the last battle is fought. Even with the legendary fame she's now earned for herself, she still feels the lack of acknowledgment. Thankfully for her, one of her fellow patients is perfectly happy to see the awesomeness that is her, and they bond together as they wait for news. And in the end, he convinces her that now that the war is over, there's no need to seek a glorious death in battle. He's giving up war and turning to healing the nasty mess left throughout the world, but no matter what she does, he will love her. She decides that accomplishing one impossible deed is perfectly satisfactory when you've not yet reached 25, and maybe healing is a little more healthy than looking to die in battle. Besides, she's kind of fallen for him too, and not just because he cares about her and not just the jobs she can be entrusted with. And so they get married and become famous for the healing of the land they accomplish, and she is given yet another honorific title and lives out the rest of her life in fame and happiness.

Next is Faith Lehane. From the nomination post by mfirefly10:
Do I really need to point out the reasons?!?!

Aside from being a hot chick with super powers, she's also the only person who ever made Buffy a victim.

Even on the road to redemption, she still kicked ass and pwned all the men around her, including Angelus.

Plus, she wears a LOT of leather and looks GOOD in it.

[_Me_] I have to add that Faith was probably my first real anti-heroine. Cruel, misguided, briefly evil even! All of my friends loved to hate her. So why did a part of me WANT HER TO WIN? Because she was just. that. awesome. Her redemption story was of the only most satisfying things about season seven of Buffy, and one that felt completely earned.
