GIS – Technology – GIS Systems (original) (raw)

GIS1: The basic structure of the in vitro system, simulating the gastrointestinal tract, consisted of 1 Duran bottle with a removable screw cap and a 1000 mL capacity made of borosilicate glass. The Duran bottle screw cap had four entries:two for samples and solutions, and the others for the pH meter and temperature sensor. The Duran bottle was put onto a magnetic stirrer with a ceramic heating plate and had a tabulator GL 32 to take the samples.

GIS1 can be used in two phases in the same configuration:

Phase 1: Transit simulation through the stomach and small intestine;
Phase 2: Transit simulation through the colon in a uni-compartmental system

GIS2: In vitro, colon transit consists of three sections: C1 – ascending, C2 – transverse, C3 – descending colon. Each section consisted of of Duran bottle with a tabulator GL 32 to take the samples. pH was monitored by a digital pH meter. The Duran bottles were put on a magnetic stirrer with a ceramic heating plate. Optionally, another Duran bottle can be added to simulate the transit through the stomach and small intestine.

For example, testing probiotic lactic bacteria strains at the gastric and small intestine level will follow the protocol:
