The Global IoT DevFest provides industry thought leaders, innovators, developers, and enthusiasts worldwide a platform to share knowledge, present visions, conduct deep-dive training, and share real-world use cases and solutions. IoT experts and enthusiasts alike will come together in a virtual forum to share their voice, vision and solutions; teach and learn through sessions covering a wide range of topics; get connected through 1:1 mentoring sessions; and showcase cutting-edge IoT research and innovation.
Our inaugural online DevFest in June included participants from 94 countries and 46 talks from the world’s leading IoT experts – but that was just the start: this event now spans two 16-hour days to accommodate various time zones, with tracks to appeal to a broad range of interest and experience levels.
Plan to attend the virtual Intel Global IoT DevFest as we explore all things IoT, sharing knowledge, tools and training to connect the unconnected, create smart and connected things, and build a software-defined autonomous world.

CONFERENCE AGENDA
FEATURED TALKS
Building Functional Safety Products with Wind River VxWorks RTOS | Alex Wilson
With system consolidation and demands for more compute, regulations and functionality in today’s industrial systems, system designers are turning to more powerful processors targeted at functional safety, such as the new Intel® Xeon® processor D-1529 for industrial 61508 certification solution. When building this type of industrial device that requires proven functional safety, a robust software solution is needed to manage the multiple processor cores and software applications that are both non-safety and safety certified.
Wind River® Safety Profile for VxWorks® provides a proven safety subset of the VxWorks Real-Time Operating system, which can be used standalone for simple safety systems or virtualized to provide support for consolidated multi-level safety systems. Running on the new Intel Xeon processor D-1529, this virtualized solution results in a very flexible and powerful hardware/software solution for high-end functional safety applications, minimizing certification costs on system updates, as well as the ability to host safe and non-safe applications. For example, a security policy monitor or IoT communications could be updated without impacting the safety certification.
Learn how to build industrial devices meeting functional safety requirements using a software solution that manages multiple processor cores and software applications that are both non-safety and safety certified.
IoT End to End - Turn your IoT Sensor Data into Insights | John Walicki
Real IoT production deployments running at scale are collecting sensor data from hundreds / thousands / millions of devices. The goal is to take business critical actions on the real time data and find insights from stored datasets. Join John Walicki in this session for a fast paced developer journey that follows the IoT sensor data from generation, to edge gateway, to edge analytics, to encryption, to the IBM Bluemix cloud, to Watson IoT Real Time rules/actions, to visualization, to Node-RED processing, to cloud storage, to Data Science Experience, to Apache Spark analysis in Jupyter notebooks, to PixieDust visualization and finally machine learning algorithms. You don't need to be an expert data scientist to look for predictive maintenance insights using Watson IoT.
Fog Computing is an imperative ICT technology for Smart Cities | Matthew Bailey
Smart Cities are an imperative innovation to meet the huge challenges of an additional 3 Billion people living in and around cities by 2050. Cities must have the right ICT Neurologies that provide a foundation for innovation of "smart" services that affectively serve citizens of today and tomorrow. Smart Cities demand resilient ICT Neurologies with breath taking requirements “at the edge” for “Smart” services such as autonomous vehicles and emergency services. Smart services running in the cloud in hundreds of miles away from a locale don’t cut it. This is where Fog Computing comes into play, By bridging the “continuum” from Cloud to Things. Fog Computing combined with high quality of service and powerful computing and analytics right at the edge of an ICT network, equips smart applications to operate at optimal efficiency which has never been possible before, right at the point where they are most needed. Including IoT technologies, 5G and Artificial Intelligence, a Fog architecture is ideally suited for multitudes of “Smart” markets such as Smart Cities. Audiences will learn about the OpenFog Consortium, Fog Computing and how this can be leveraged by organizations to get ahead in serving “Smart” and IoT markets such as Smart Cities.
Proven Roadmap to Develop a Successful IoT Journey | Maciej Kranz
Get past the IoT hype and get on with jumpstarting or expanding IoT within and throughout your organization – no matter its size or market sector. Learn practical industry best practices to plan, prepare and implement IoT projects from both operational and organizational business perspectives. The speaker will focus on frontline IoT business managers and developers by sharing eight key ingredients essential in any successful IoT project, four fast paths to fast payback, and common mistakes to avoid. The speaker, an IoT pioneer, draws on his long-time experience as a Cisco executive overseeing the development and deployment of IoT solutions with customers in multiple industries, and on content developed in his recent New York Times bestseller, Building the Internet of Things.
UX Strategies for the New Ordinary: Designing for Privacy in the Age of Magic | Faith McCreary
Smart technologies make possible new innovative services but also facilitate an unprecedented visibility into the mundane and not so mundane activities of our daily lives. Addressing potential privacy concerns will be critical to making these technologies mainstream, but designing for privacy in a smart world is not simple. Today I am going to share some of what I learned about privacy while working in the Internet-of- Things and by the end of this talk, you will walk out of here with 4 strategies that you can use to design smart privacy-mindful experiences that people will want.
