This course provides an introduction to basic methods for analyzing words. Goals of the course include: identifying the patterns of word shapes and their formation found cross-linguistically; developing a typology of word formation patterns; developing theories which can account for these patterns; and gaining insights into the human mind by examining patterns of morphology (i.e. why they might be like they are as well as how they are learned, comprehended, produced and change over time).
For a general introduction to the Linguistics Dept, as well as the program’s office location and hours, see here.
