Cursed Movies

I have heard many tales of films that are cursed, the main one being the exorcist. However now it seems a movie cant be made without an accident being labelled as a curse.

Do these movies really hold a curse or is it just coincidence? Tale a look at my Top Ten and decide for yourselves.................

Rebel without a Cause is a 1955 American film. It was directed by Nicholas Gray, and among the cast were James Dean, Natalie Wood and Sal Mineo.

The film centres on a rebellious teenager who is played by James Dean. Dean comes to a town and meets a girl (Natalie Wood). He rebels against his parents and takes on the local bullies along with new best mate (Sal Mineo).

The movie is said to be cursed because the main Star 24yr old James Dean died in a car crash just after filming this movie. Ironically he had just been given a speeding ticket.

Co star Natalie Wood was a drowning victim who passed away under mysterious circumstances, and speculation that she was murdered or committed suicide was rife.

Sal Mineo was stabbed to death by a robber outside his Hollywood apartment, which was ironic because his nickname in the movie was 'The Switchblade Kid.'

The Kingdom is a 2007 film directed by Peter Berg. The cast included Jamie Foxx, Chris Cooper, and Jennifer Garner.

The story is based on bombings in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and follows a group of FBI Agents who investigate the bombings at a foreign workers facility.

The reason this film is rumoured to be cursed is because three people died in the making of the film, two of which were crashes on the set.

Quantum of Solace is the 2008 James Bond Movie starring Daniel Craig. Many Bond movies are said to have been cursed over the years, and this is just the latest in a long line.

Firstly there was a fire at pinewood studio's while the movie was being filmed. Then they lost a Aston Martin when it was being delivered on a rainy day, the Aston Martin veered off the road and plunged into Lake Garda, the driver was taken to hospital.

Next a stuntman was seriously injured during a crash. Daniel Craig (007) was taken to hospital a few times, first with a hand injury, then again with a facial injury, and finally when he suffered a rib injury.

A technician for the movie was also stabbed in a bar by a woman.

Superman has been on our television since 1940, Misfortunes have plagued people involved in the Superman productions ever since, resulting in speculation that it's cursed.

The original Superman in 1940 was played by Kirk Alyn, but he failed to find work afterwards and later died of Alzheimer's.

George Reeves played Superman in 1951, and like Kirk he was known only for his role of Superman, in June 1959 just days before his wedding he was found dead from a gun shot wound, it was recorded as suicide, but other theories persist.

Christopher Reeve played Superman from 1978, the Actor was paralysed from the neck down after being thrown from his horse in a cross country equestrian riding event in 1995. Christopher died in 2005 due to heart failure stemming from his medical condition.

5. Batman the Dark Knight was made in 2008 and starred Christian Bale, Heath Ledger and Morgan Freeman.

Batman is yet another film rumoured to be cursed when Heath Ledger who played the Joker died of an accidental overdose of sleeping pills and other medication while the film was still being edited. Friends of Heath said he had gone in to a dark place after filming Batman, after he had gone too deep into his crazed character.

Also on the film, a Crewman died while filming an action shot.

Christian Bale, who played Batman, was arrested on assault charges after a row with his Mother and Sister got out of hand, just days before The Dark Knight Premier in London.

Then in August 2008, Morgan Freeman had a serious car accident where he had to be air lifted of to hospital.

6. The Crow was made in 1994, and it starred Brandon Lee (son of Bruce Lee).

Brandon played the role of rock musician Eric Draven. Eric is revived from the dead to avenge both his own and his Fiancé's Murder.

Just eight days before filming was due to end, Brandon was filming a scene where dummy rounds had to be fired. Unfortunately someone on the set had been playing with the fake Gun, and didn't realise one of the dummy bullets had become lodged in the barrel of the gun.

When the gun was fired, the bullet penetrated Brandon's abdomen and lodged in his spine, this cause massive blood loss. Brandon was rushed to Hospital but sadly died 12 hours later.

Also on the set of the Crow, a carpenter was severely burned when the crane he was on struck high power lines. Another crew member slipped and drove a screwdriver through his hand, and a set sculptor drove his car through a plaster shop.

It didn't stop there though, A TV series was made called The Crow: Stairway to Heaven, and while filming an explosive stunt, the stunt coordinator was killed when a piece of debris shot up in the air hit a tree and then struck him in the head, killing him.

7. Rosemary's Baby is a 1968 American horror, written and directed by Roman Polanski.

The movie starred Mia Farrow, John Cassavetes, Ruth Gordon and Maurice Evans. It centres around a couple Rosemary and Guy (Mia Farrow and John Cassavetes) who move to an eerie apartment in New York. They find themselves living next door to a strange couple who are part of a Satan worshiping Cult.

Guy becomes unusually close to the neighbours while Rosemary tries to keep her distance, later Rosemary is raped by Satan and becomes pregnant.

One year after making the Film, the film's composer died of a brain clot, the same way a character in the film dies. Then Producer William Castle suffered from Kidney failure soon after the movie was made, and swore the film was cursed, shouting out "Rosemary, for god sake drop that knife," while being treated.

However the main reason for the curse stories is Writer and Director Roman Polanski bought a house for himself and his eight month pregnant wife Sharon Tate. Roman had bought the house from music producer Terry Melcher who had annoyed cult leader Charles Manson when he refused to record Manson's music. Manson ordered his Cult to go to the house and reek havoc. His Cult killed Sharon Tate and her Unborn Baby and four others by stabbing them multiple times.

8. The Poltergeist Trilogy is probably one of the most famous Cursed Film stories and possibly for good reason.

The first film was made in 1982 and is based on The Freeling Family, but mainly their daughter five year old Carol Anne Freeling. It tells the story of Poltergeists who invade the family home because it was built on an ancient Indian Burial ground.

The Poltergeists seek out little Carol because she has Clairvoyant properties and they want her to guide them to the light because they are lost souls.

Child Actor Heather Rourke who starred in all three films died just before the third film was released, she was suffering from the flu, and taken to hospital but later died on the operating table due to complications.

Next Julian Beck who played the terrifying old man in number two, died of Cancer. Not long after Actor William Sampson died during an operation.

Then Dominique Dunne who played the oldest child died the same year the movie was released when her Boyfriend strangled her to death.

Louis Perryman who played Pugsley in the movie was murdered in his Texas home when he was stabbed with a sharp object.

JoBeth Williams who played the mother in the movie claimed she used to get home after filming and her pictures would all be askew on her wall, she said she would straighten them all but the next day they would all go back again. The most Eerie thing about this curse story is that the film directors actually used real human remains as props in the poltergeist movie, so I am sure that really helped in angering the spirits.

9. The Omen is a thriller/horror film which was first made in 1976 and starred actors such as Gregory Peck, Lee Remick, and Harvey Stephens.

A remake called The Omen 666, was released on the 6/6/2006 and that date was chosen as a reference to the number of the beast. The story is based on Robert Thorn and his wife Katherine who's baby died at birth, to save his wife from heartache, Robert substitutes the dead child for an orphan Damien. A series of tragic events take place as the boy gets older, and Robert starts to suspect his adopted son is in fact the Antichrist.

During the Filming of The Omen, scriptwriter David Selter's plane was struck by lightening, then one of the main star's Gregory Pecks plane was also struck by lightening.

But Lightening only strikes twice right? Wrong! The Movie's Executive Producer, Mace Neufields Plane was then also struck by lightening.

Later, a Hotel that Mace Neufelds was staying at got bombed by the IRA, then a Restaurant the Director and actors were eating at also got bombed by the IRA.

On Friday the 13th of August 1976, Richardson crashed his car in Holland. His assistant was sliced through by the car's front wheel. Scrambling out of the wreckage, Richardson looked up and saw a road sign: Omen, 66.6km.

One of the film's tiger handler's died. Gregory Peck's son shot himself. A plane scheduled for use in the film, which was rescheduled and used for a commercial flight instead, crashed and killed everyone on board. Then a Stuntman on the Movie deliberately threw himself of a roof.

Out of all the movies I have read about, this is the one I find the most eerie.

10. The Exorcist is one of the most controversial horror films ever made, if not the most.

When it was first released in 1973, traumatized young girls were being helped out of the cinema. Apparently people even went as far to kill themselves because they couldn't get the horror out of their heads.

When I watched The Exorcist I didn't really see what all the fuss was about. To be honest I still don't. But I guess it all depends on the mind of the person watching it.

The story is based on the demonic possession of a young girl Regan Macneil (Linda Blair). Her Mother Chris Macneils (Ellen Burstyn) desperately attempts to free her daughter of this devil with the help of two priests.

The film The Exorcist was adapted from the 1971 Novel, which was actually based on true events which took place in Maryland in 1949.

In August 1972 while The Exorcist was being filmed many of the film set felt a presence on the set like something terrible was taking place. Arguments were rife while filming because everyone was so tense and couldn't wait for it all to be over.

In the September of 1972, Jason Miller who played the priest in the movie took his children to the beach for the day, but his Son Jordan was run down by a Motorbike, his legs were nearly crushed and he was rushed of to hospital in a critical condition, but after just ten days in hospital he made a miraculous recovery.

Back on the set, strange and mysterious occurrences were going on. First they experienced a lot of electrical problems. Then inn October 1972 the crew were all really spooked believing that the devil himself was trying to stop the film from going ahead, and so the film producers called in a real life priest who came and blessed the set and sprinkled holy water on the cast, the set and the crew.

The following day they started filming the scene of Father Merrin's arrival, when Max Von Sydow, who played the part of Father Merrin got a phone call to say his brother had died, and so he had to fly home for the funeral.

In January 1973 just after completing his scenes, Actor Jack MacGowran suddenly died of Influenza. Just after a fire broke out on one of the sets destroying everything, the fire still remains a mystery.

During the scene where Linda Blair is flipping around on the bed, she fractured her lower spine when the harness she was strapped to came undone, and the scenes of her screaming was real not acting, as the cruel directors wanted to keep filming her pain as they thought it would make the scene even better. Then the scene where the mother was slammed into the wall, she hit the wall so hard she to injured her back, and her screams were real as well.

When the film had finished all the crew were relieved, the film got taken off for processing and the address was 666 5th Avenue. When The Exorcist was re released in 2000, Jason Miller who played Father Karass died suddenly of a heart attack, and in July 2002 when a prequel to The Exorcist was being produced, the Director went for back surgery and suffered from a massive stroke and died.

A new director took over and once again, strange things started happening on set. The fax machine turned itself on and started throwing out loads of 66666666666666666's line after line, which really freaked everyone out.

Yet another Director Renny Harlin, stepped in and after shooting a really bloody scene, Harlin went home to find his beloved Dog hemorrhaging, the blood was spraying everywhere and the dog was yelping in pain. His Dog was rushed to the Vets but the Vet could not find any reason for the Hemorrhaging. Later when Renny flew out to Rome to begin filming, he was crossing the road and out of nowhere a car appeared and run him down. when he was shown his X Ray he saw that their was thirteen screws in his leg.

One of the film investors son died and he had to fly home, meaning the film lost out on a lot of money, but still filming continued. Also a night watchmen was killed while patrolling the set. Catholic Priest's believe the Devil did not want to be exposed, and these tragic turn of events were not coincidence but something more evil at work.

So there was the top ten cursed movies, but were they really cursed or was it all coincidental.

I mean cancer and strokes and heart attacks happen every day, I don't believe these are the work of the Devil, I think it is more likely that Film produces have put the misfortunes of their crew together with some exaggerated story's to make their films sell better, what do you think?
