What to Run, What to Run (at CanGames)? (original) (raw)
Given that CanGames, 2009 is coming up on us soon, I need to decide what folks would like to see me run gaming-wise there. I've decided on choosing between two systems, and there is the possibility that I might run 2 sessions of each, but I want to see what folks have to say.
For those who are interested, I thought I would answer three questions here...
1. What is The Dying Earth RPG?
The Dying Earth rpg is a roleplaying game based on the works of Jack Vance, a science fantasy rpg that is set billions of years in the future, when the earth is on its last legs, and the sun may go out tomorrow. The player characters and people found in this world are very fatalistic, but robin_d_laws has done a really good job of coming up with rules that emulate the world of Vance very nicely.
2. What is The Edge of Midnight rpg?
The Edge of Midnight is a noir rpg with a "magic" (based on science principles) element, set in a shadow world with 1930's and 1940's sensibilities of the film noir tradition.
3. Why is there no other choice being offered here?
The reason for this is simple. The only two other rpgs that I had considered running at the convention this year were either Hollow Earth Expedition and Hellas: Worlds of Sun and Stone. My friend spross is going to be running Hollow Earth Expedition at the convention, and the convention is small enough that it won't really handle the running of an indie game like HEX more than three times, so I don't want to step on his toes with that one. As for Hellas, well...it requires three or four character sheet pages, and the scenario provided in the Quick-Start Rules isn't really a decent 4-hour scenario for a convention or demo imo, with pre-generated character sheets. Besides, depending on what I run from the two games nominated, I may run a Hellas or HEX game on the side, if there are any slots in my time space available. So, we'll see.
So, here is the latest poll...

Why isn't there another choice? :)
