Kai Bird is a Pulitzer Prize-winning historian and journalist. On September 1, 2026 Scribner books will publish American Scoundrel: Roy Cohn’s Dark Journey From Joe McCarthy to Donald Trump. In July 2023 Universal Studios released a major motion picture, Oppenheimer, based on American Prometheus, the biography Kai Bird co-authored with the late Martin J. Sherwin. The screenplay was written by Christopher Nolan who was also the director of the film, featuring Cillian Murphy, Matt Damon, Robert Downey, Jr., Emily Blunt, Kenneth Branagh and a host of other actors.
