NWS details tornado paths through Tulsa, Broken Arrow, Oologah (original) (raw)

TULSA, Okla. (KTUL) -- The National Weather Service has released a detailed map of the paths of Sunday's tornadoes in Tulsa, Broken Arrow and Oologah.

An EF-2 with winds up to 130 mph is responsible for damaging dozens of businesses and homes over a 4.2-mile path through midtown and east Tulsa. According to the NWS, the twister touched down at 1:19 a.m. in a neighborhood east of Harvard and south of 36th Street. Large tree limbs snapped and homes were damaged.

As the tornado moved east-southeast crossing Yale, a number of trees and power poles were snapped and businesses were damaged or destroyed between Yale and Sheridan along 41st Street. Roofs were blown off structures, exterior walls were torn off buildings and several vehicles were rolled.

About 26 injuries occurred in the area. According to EMSA, paramedics took eight people from TGI Friday's and four people from Whataburger on 41st Street to local hospitals. Several others arrived at area hospitals by private vehicle.

The NWS reports the tornado continued toward Broken Arrow, causing roof, wall and window damage between Sheridan and Highway 169. Power poles and trees were downed. The storm turned easterly and moved along 51st Street before dissipating just before reaching 145th East Avenue.

According to the NWS, the first tornado was on the ground for 6.9 miles and ended about 3.1 miles north of Broken Arrow at 1:25 a.m. Two minutes later, a weaker EF-1 formed 2.8 miles north of Broken Arrow in aa neighborhood north of 51st Street and west of 177th East Avenue.

The tornado continued for 2.9 miles with winds up to 100 mph. The storm moved east-southeast, uprooting trees and snapping large limbs between Lynn Lane and County Line Road. It ended at 1:31 a.m.

NWS reports the third tornado formed at 1:32 a.m. a mile east of Oologah where barns and trees were damaged. It moved north along South 4110 Road where power poles were snapped, a home was damaged and trees were downed.

The EF-1 turned northwesterly after crossing East 370 Road and dissipated south of East 350 Road at 1:40 a.m. after 4.5 miles.
