Rick Burchett started his artistic career at Gardner Advertising in St. Louis. A comic fan, he drew a lot of fan art in the 1970s. He did his first professional comics work in the early 1980s for AC Comics ('The Specialists', 'Black Diamond'), First ('Munden's Bar', 'American Flagg!', 'Michael Mauser'), Pacific ('Quark') and Capital ('The Badger'). He then joined DC, where he remained ever since. His first work at the company was 'Blackhawk', which was followed by titles like 'Black Diamond', 'Black Hood', 'E-Man', 'Batman', 'Batman Adventures', 'American Flagg' and 'Great American Western'.
