This website is intended to be a source of information about the process of forgetting a native language in immigrants and bilinguals – a linguistic development called ‘first language attrition’.

It provides information both for non-linguists who are interested in learning more about language attrition and for researchers intending to study it experimentally.

We are excited to announce that the dates and location for the 5th International Conference on Language Attrition and Bilingualism have been confirmed – it will take place 7-9 Oct 2026 in Porto Alegro, Brazil. Please keep checking the conference page for information on call dates, plenary speakers, programme, and much more!
