Twing Buzz Graph: When Googling Oneself isn't Enough (original) (raw)

I saw the movie Wanted over the weekend, and chuckled to myself when the main character Wesley Googled himself and turned up with no results. It was the actual act of Googling oneself that I found most amusing, because it's something we all do. And if we have even the tiniest online presence, then there's actually a reputation we're inclined to look after.

As more online publications and social media-sharing sites increase the transparency with which we perceive other individuals (i.e. other personas), the necessity for brand management and protection is a growing necessity in our current culture. As this becomes more important to brands and individuals, there are more services that present tracking and management tools as free and premium services, including Andy Beal's Trackur. The capability is even extending into other arenas of Web content, such as consumer comments, as we've seen with coComment's latest feature release.

So it's not entirely surprising to see that the recently launched forum search engine Twing has come out with its own reputation-tracking services, respectively called Saved Search and Buzz Graph. It's an interesting search vertical that appeals directly to individuals and businesses, with a continual use of the Twing service. As forums are often the most populated forms of discussion-oriented communities to this day, it's quite necessary that these forums be included in overall brand management as well. What Twing will help brands do after they've provided this data seems to be somewhat less involved than the actual act of tracking reputations, but it's a great start.
