A special function psi_1(z) corresponding to a polygamma function psi_n(z) with n=1, given by

 psi_1(z)=(d^2)/(dz^2)lnGamma(z). (1)

An alternative function

 F^'(z)=(d^2)/(dz^2)lnz! (2)

is sometimes called the trigamma function, where

 F^'(z)=psi_1(z+1). (3)

Sums and differences of psi_1(r/s) for small integers r and s can be expressed in terms of pi, Catalan's constant K, and Clausen functions. For example,

In general,

 psi_1(p/q)=(pi^2)/(2sin^2((pip)/q))+2qsum_(m=1)^((q-1)/2)sin((2pimp)/q)Cl_2((2pim)/q) (14)

(Lewin 1991).
