Our Community Our Community
Mattagami First Nation is home to the Ojibwe and Oji-Cree people who have long occupied the Mattagami River shores and Mattagami Lake areas as far as the Moose River head waters of the James Bay Coast.
Translated, the Ojibwe word for Mattagami means ‘Meeting of the Waters’. The community is home to approximately 200 members and citizens, with the total membership of the First Nation being around 700 people. We are located 80 kilometres south of Timmins Ontario, off of highway 144.
