Manchester Mesivta – A balanced Torah and Secular Education for boys (original) (raw)

An education that’s his passport to the future.

One of the longest established local Orthodox Jewish High Schools, Manchester Mesivta provides a balanced Torah and secular education that prepares students ages 11 – 17 for all future opportunities.

The best of both worlds

You value Torah study. You value higher education. However, you don’t know which path your son will choose.

You want him to be equipped for both.

Give your son a broad and balanced education, one rooted in the principle of Torah Im Derech Eretz, leaving all doors
to his future, open and accessible. A Manchester Mesivta education will set him up for success on any journey he takes. Whether he wants to stay in kollel, continue to higher education or enter the business world, our robust kodesh and chol curriculum will cater to the future of his dreams.

"They are positive in all ares of Yiddishkeit"

The school is one big happy family with a very positive atmosphere which is felt at all times. They let every boy develop at their own pace, regardless of their academic ability. The impact of this is noticeable in their outcomes with every boy achieving their potential. They are positive in all areas of Yiddishkeit and in life in general with happy memories upon leaving the school.

“What it said on the tin is what you got inside!”

I wanted my boys to have both a strong Jewish and Secular Education so that they would feel well equipped for the future, whether in Yeshiva or the commercial world. With Manchester Mesivta, what it said on the tin is what you got inside! If they needed extra support, a staff member was designated to provide that personal coaching and encouragement. With one boy thriving in Gateshead Yeshiva, and one thriving in 6th form, we’ve been very happy with our choice of school.

“They have excellent Rebbeim and Teachers”

Mesivta provides the best balance between kodesh and secular learning. It’s difficult to achieve that, but they manage this better than anyone else. They have excellent Rebbeim and Teachers who have been very caring and supportive to my son and they really desire to help him achieve his best.

The Values that Drive us 75 years on

For both kodesh and chol

We teach our students to be lifelong learners, to value questions as much as answers. With our on-site Kollel, maths clinic, science club, chess competition, father-and-son Sunday breakfast and Nissan alumni learning programmes, the passion for growth is immense.

And make a lasting impact

We believe in a positive, caring approach in nurturing youth successfully. Our passionate and motivated staff are very much engaged with our students, and a strong pastoral team provides supplementary support through coaching and mentoring. While our prefects serve as big brothers to their junior peers.

So no-one’s left behind

Everyone deserves a chance at success. As a Voluntary Aided School, we welcome boys with a wide range of abilities, even offering KS2 curriculum for boys who would otherwise require a non-Jewish school, alongside highly academic boys studying for A-levels. An experienced SEN department with specialist staff ensures all needs are met.

And produce healthy young adults

The end goal is not about marks, it’s about making your mark — on the people and community around you. Our boys volunteer for community initiatives and help raise charity for global causes. We also teach core life and leadership skills with the Duke of Edinburgh Award (DofE), which they can readily implement both as prefects and as members of the school council.

Motivating. Invigorating. Validating.

Students learn better in comfort. Our modern, purpose-built premises are equipped with a design and technology suite, science lab, woodwork studio,
games room and magnificent Beis Midrash. This allows for a positive and healthy learning environment. The school canteen provides hot, filling lunches daily.

We give students regular highlights away from their desks with invigorating calendar highlights. From weekend trips to Eastern Europe tour, Seudas Chaverim Bar Mitzvah celebrations to our choir, sports tournaments and career workshops, it gives their social skills, talents and general wellbeing a boost.

Students encountering emotional difficulties will benefit from on-site therapy, including animal therapy, as well as counselling, to help them validate their feelings and deal with challenges they may face. We also have designated staff to support the incoming Year 7 pupils in the transition to high
school, to ensure a smooth and undaunting experience.

Meet our students

“The Rebbeim are so enthusiastic and I’m really enjoying learning on a higher level than I ever did before. I get a real geshmak from covering new ground with a chavrusa.”

Mesivta definitely feels like a family. The whole school celebrates together at the simchas beis hashoeva and it’s so achdus’dik. Lots of ex-talmidim join us too. It’s so special that they still feel a warm connection to the school.

The full Beis Hamedrash program together with the school’s in-house kolel gives us the opportunity to learn in real yeshiva-style. I’m looking forward to my turn in giving a chabura to the rest of my year.

Success Stories From Our Alumni

“I’m involved in Rabbanus, chinuch and running a legal and Halachic Estate Planning Service. Manchester Mesivta provided both the foundations for being a ben Torah for life and the tools to be able to fulfil b’chol dirachecha deieihu. If you want your child to have a wholesome, broad and Torah’dige experience, with all the right priorities, Manchester Mesivta is your place.”

“Pupils have gone on to achieve in whatever field they turn their hand to. Thriving in one’s occupation does not come at the expense of one's ruchnius. This balance is evident throughout the school. Many of the teachers themselves embody this principle and set a fantastic role model to all the students. I loved being in an environment surrounded by people who share a unique drive. We were part of something bigger than just a school.”
