  • Location(s) spoken: Western Part of Central Java, Cirebon - Indramayu and North of Banten. All located in Java island of Indonesia.
  • Closely related languages, if any: Javenese, Sundanese and Kawi Language.
• Comments: I propose this with main reason that lately, there is a lot of evidences that Banyumasan language leaft behind by the younger peoples of Banyumasan. They prefer speaking Yogyakartan / Surakartan (assumed as Modern Javanese language) dialect instead of Banyumasan and I'm afraid that Banyumasan language will be disappear sooner. Other reason, Banyumasan language is quite different (especially in phonetic) compared to Modern Javanese language (Yogyakartan/Surakartan). Most of original Banyumasan words are never found in Modern Javanese language such as : kencot (hungry), pisan (very), inyong (I/me), rika/sira (you), belih (no), entong (used up), dingin (previous) etc etc.

No. One Wikipedia never hosts another. Romanian and Aromanian are similar - separate Wikipedias. English and Scots are similar - separate Wikipedias. Russian and Ukrainian are similar - separate Wikipedias. Cornish and Welsh are similar - separate Wikipedias. Hindi and Gujarati are similar - separate Wikipedias. Samoan and Hawaiian are similar - separate Wikipedias. Kazak and Kyrgyz are similar - separate Wikipedias. Galician and Portuguese are similar - separate Wikipedias. Czech and Slovak are similar - separate Wikipedias. Indonesian and Malay are similar - separate Wikipedias. Estonian and Voro are similar - separate Wikipedias. Spanish and Catalan are similar - separate Wikipedias. Italian and Sicilian are similar - separate Wikipedias. Dutch and Plattdeutsch are similar - separate Wikipedias. Thanks for those who have supported Banyumasan language to have its own Wiki. Banyumasan indeed is one of Javanese dialects but its the farthest dialect of Javanese language. If we make an assumption that Yogyakartan and Surakartan dialects are in the central of Javanese language, Banyumasan is in the edge. None of Yogyakartan or Surakartan can speek Banyumasan unless they have stay there for years. Meursault2004 is a linguist and he understand this better. The test-wiki looks great! The number of articles has clearly passed the 100-article limit (perhaps unintentionally), and Slamet Serayu and other writers have put many hours into developing this wiki. Perhaps we shouldn't create Banyumasan but Western-Javanese Wikipedia, just like Alemmanic Wikipedia to cover all similar dialects. Meursault2004 17:28, 15 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

No matter what is it's name, to me (and I'm sure millions of all Banyumasan peoples) the important things is it may online. I have tired, and hopefully I wouldn't desparated. I used to insisted so that Banyumasan will has it's own Wikipedia with it's own name, but it seems so hard to materialized. Why don't we thingking like Scott Gall done ?, please, support me. Don`t worry, Slamet Serayu. Everybody can see what a great job you guys are doing already - surely the most beautiful test wiki I've ever seen here. You're not the only ones that have to wait for some time here, but that does't mean you're not supported. Distinguishing between languages and dialects is often a hard thing to do here, especially if one is unfamiliar to a certain group of languages. Banyumasan or Western-Javanese, I'm sure the best option will be decided upon soon. Either way, I do support your Wikipedia. Arbeo 14:18, 27 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

It's great that this wikipedia will be created soon, but we need to sort out the issue of codes. The codes listed are *not* official ISO codes. The only code available is map (for other Malayo-Polynesian languages). I also *strongly* recommend that this wiki should include include other, closely-related varieties of Western Javanese, since these are not distinct enough to merit having separate wikis. So I would suggest map-bjk (for 'Basa Jawa Kulon', not sure if this the right term to use) as a possible code. (I added it to the sections above). --Chamdarae 18:36, 2 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

• Is that for Western Javanese in general? I guess it would be smart to pick a code that covers all dialects so that there is a possibility to include other variants in the future. Nevertheless, I think for now this Wikipedia should be called "Banyumasan" as there are only Banyumasan editors at the moment. Yesterday, I tried to contact Slamet Serayu, Wied, Ali Rahmat and Mersault on this issue but have not yet gotten any answers.   • Slamet Serayu and Ali Rahmat have both informed me that the term "Banyumasan" is often used to refer to whole group of Western Javanese dialects, while the name "Banyumas" refers to an individual dialect (see their talk pages for details). Arbeo 21:09, 13 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
