IGN and KFC Snacker Present Readers' Top 99 Games (original) (raw)

#80: The Legend of Zelda Platform: NES Developer: Nintendo Publisher: Nintendo Year: 1987 The Legend of Zelda was certainly a new and different type of game in its time. While there followed a flood of games that tried to imitate the feeling that this game had, nothing, even years later, has come anywhere close to it. It's not just a feeling either, it's not just that it was new and different. At its core, it was a great game then, just as it is now.-- terrisus This is one of the greatest games ever created. The story, the action, and the puzzles are all major factors in the game. It is no wonder that the Zelda franchise has grown to be one of the best series in Video Gaming History. Do not even insult this game by borrowing it or renting. Pick it up.-- Arbuthnaut Add this to my collection
#79: NCAA Football 2004 Platform: GCN PS2 Xbox Developer: Tiburon Publisher: Electronic Arts Year: 2003 This game is a masterpiece. A tribute to football games. This game is even better than Madden, and that's saying something. EVERYTHING you could want in football is here. Rivalries, Perfect Game Simulation, Create-a-School, Create-a-Player, Dynasty Mode, Perfect Game Simulation (it's so great I've got to mention it twice).-- Lord_Leviat Every thing in this game rocked. The character models are great, the different game modes add replay value and the dynasty mode is so frickin' good you could be hooked for months on end. I know I will.-- PhatCow3 Add this to my collection
#78: Disgaea: Hour of Darkness Platform: PS2 Developer: Nippon Ichi Software Publisher: Atlus Software Year: 2003 After watching the first cutscene, I began to think to myself how innovative this game really was. I began to play, and fell in love with the story, the humor, the characters, the gameplay, everything! I just became wrapped up in the gameplay that hours upon hours passed...-- TheSneus Disgaea is hands down the greatest Strategy-RPG ever made. Yes, better than Final Fantasy Tactics, and yes, better than Shining Force 2.-- CStrife1421 Add this to my collection
#77: Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow Platform: GBA Developer: Konami TYO Publisher: Konami Year: 2003 Normally, the third game in a series is weaker then its siblings, but Aria of Sorrow proves that wrong. It's a plush combination of all things Castlevania.-- rose-of-yoshiki Aria of Sorrow is probably the best Castlevania in the series, possibly even topping ... Symphony of the Night. The replay value in AoS was outstanding; you wanted to keep playing after you beat it once, and wanting is a good thing ...-- ggguuu An amazing strong point of this game are the graphics. This is simply some of the best 2D sprite work and artistry that I've seen, period. The animations and backgrounds are stunning, the sheer variety of monsters is awesome and all are well-done.-- Sarpedon Add this to my collection
#76: SSX 3 Platform: GCN PS2 Xbox Developer: EA Canada Publisher: Electronic Arts Year: 2003 SSX3 is also an incredibly satisfying game. The first, second, and third time you play the game will probably be an embarrassment. But you start to figure things out, land more jumps, and begin to pull off one ber Trick after the next. The controls are designed perfectly ... and after a half-hour with the game you won't put it down.-- SpyGuru08 Visually, the game is a Godsend on such casual and basic ideas ... Once all of the pieces are brought together, you have a fulfilling gameplay experience ...-- _ZoopNOVA_Usually, changing a great game's entire concept is very risky, but SSX 3 managed to succeed. I was skeptical at first but as soon as I started playing it, I was hooked. -- ravenfan531 Add this to my collection
#75: Project Gotham Racing 2 Platform: Xbox Developer: Bizarre Creations Publisher: Microsoft Year: 2003 The game lets you take over a hundred high-performance cars out for a spin in ten cities around the globe, and features a wide selection of game modes and race types. Add in several radio stations (three per city) spinning hundreds of licensed tracks and perhaps the best Live support yet, and you've got the makings for the best racing game ever.-- UnnDunn Project Gotham Racing 2 offers some of the most photo-realistic visuals seen, with the car models being quite exceptional. Each car is lovingly recreated from the Ford Focus to the Porsche Carrera, and are far more realistic than any car models seen in recently comparable games-- true-aussie Add this to my collection
#74: StarCraft Platform: Mac PC Developer: Blizzard Publisher: Blizzard Year: 1997 This is by far the best game you can ever play for a strategy game ... The balance of the game in incredible.-- vchu7105 Starcraft was ... first to introduce three completely different races and first to balance them all so well.--darthsuo This game added vast amounts of depth to real time strategy games, giving them an RPG quality without all the tedious management.-- Mrwhite13311 Add this to my collection
#73: TimeSplitters: Future Perfect Platform: GCN PS2 Xbox Developer: Free Radical Design Publisher: Electronic Arts Year: 2005 I adore this game it is so cool, the story is well planned, fun, and will make you never want to put the controller down! --DoctorDre This game is amazing, the first two in the series were brilliant, but this must be a godsend! --Beserker_splitter This game is amazing, from the single player story, to the challenges, to the arcade, to the multiplayer both online and off. The story is never dull and always halarious, vastly improved over the last title. There are so many ways to customize the multiplayer that every time you play it is a different experience. This game has infinite replay value, for there are 150 characters (many to unlock), and a huge number of challenges in both arcade and challenge.-- hives23 Add this to my collection
#72: Dragon Force Platform: Saturn Developer: SEGA Publisher: Working Designs Year: 1996 I am very saddened to see this series die, for it truly was great, and was worth owning on the Saturn. I had purchased it when it first came out and was engrossed. I still play it to this day and I never get bored of it...ahhh, the memories. I had always felt the series deserved an anime of some sort and it looked like it would make sense. It truly was one of the diamonds in the rough that was on the Sega Saturn. I really wish that more could have experienced such an excellent strategy RPG.-- Aindin Add this to my collection
#71: Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30 Platform: PC PS2 Xbox Developer: Gearbox Software Publisher: Ubisoft Year: 2005 The game's realism is insane. In every other war game it only took a couple of hits to kill your enemy while it took four or five more good hits on you to die. In this game, you're as strong as your enemies.-- TheFreedom This was not only one of the most enjoyable first person shooters to be released, it is also one of the very few games out there that most war or history buffs will enjoy.-- superzero3 The overall experience of WWII is nothing new, but this game gives you a new perspective of being part of the liberation of France. Kudos to the developers for providing such a great gameplay that draws the player into the game.-- kalix23 Add this to my collection
