Zhang Lipeng meets Chris Wade at UFC Fight Night 59 in Boston (original) (raw)
The UFC’s January return to Boston has its latest addition with a new welterweight bout.
Zhang Lipeng (8-7-1 MMA, 2-0 UFC) will meet Chris Wade (8-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC) at UFC Fight Night 59. UFC officials announced the new contest on Saturday, saying verbal agreements are in place.
Featuring a featherweight headliner between Conor McGregor and Dennis Siver, UFC Fight Night 59 takes place Jan. 18 at Boston’s TD Arena. The evening’s main card airs on FOX Sports 1, with preliminary bouts expected to air on FOX Sports 2 and stream on UFC Fight Pass.
Lipeng, the winner of “The Ultimate Fighter: China” with his split-decision win over Wang Sai in March, improved to 2-0 for the UFC when he topped Brendan O’Reilly in August in Macau. But now he’ll fight in the United States for the first time when he heads west to Boston.
Wade made his UFC debut in August, submitting Cain Carrizosa in just 72 seconds at UFC 177. That ran the New Yorker’s win streak to three fights following the lone loss of his career, which came at WSOF 2.
With the addition to the card, UFC Fight Night 59 now includes:
- Conor McGregor vs. Dennis Siver
- Eddie Alvarez vs. Benson Henderson
- Jorge Masvidal vs. Norman Parke
- Uriah Hall vs. Costas Philippou
- Zhang Lipeng vs. Chris Wade
