TUF 20 Finale results: Bloodied Joanne Calderwood tops scrappy Seo Hee Ham (original) (raw)
Joanne Calderwood
LAS VEGAS – Joanne Calderwood had her hands full with Seo Hee Ham through three bloody rounds. However, with help from a dominant final round, Calderwood (9-0 MMA, 1-0 UFC) nabbed the unanimous decision over a game but overmatched Ham (15-6 MMA, 0-1 UFC).
The women’s strawweight bout was part of the preliminary card of today’s The Ultimate Fighter 20 Finale event at The Pearl at Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas. It aired on FOX Sports 1 following additional prelims on UFC Fight Pass and ahead of a main card on FOX Sports 1.
Calderwood had success early using her height and reach to sting Ham with straight punches from the outside. However, Ham wasn’t content to be Calderwood’s punching bag. As she worked to circle away from Calderwood’s attacks, Ham fired off plenty of her own, bloodying her opponent’s nose midway through the bout and staying active even when getting the worst of most of the exchanges.
In the third round, Calderwood put an exclamation point on the victory, first with a front kick to the face that snapped back Ham’s head, and then with a takedown from standing back control that eventually led to a mauling on the mat.
With time ticking down, Calderwood sunk her hooks and took her opponent’s back before unleashing a torrent of punches that left Ham looking like a fighter who was lucky to last the distance. By the time the judges weighed in, the outcome seemed obvious.
With the win, Calderwood maintains her unbeaten pro record, though she did suffer a submission loss to eventual finalist Rose Namajunas on “TUF 20.” Ham’s loss snaps a six-fight winning streak.
