BBC News | EUROPE | Arsenal and Hearts win Cup Finals (original) (raw)

FOOTBALL: The London team, Arsenal, has won the coveted "double" for the second time in its history, defeating Newcastle United in the FA Cup Final at Wembley by two goals to nil.

Arsenal's victory adds to the League Championship the club secured two weeks ago.

In the Scottish Cup Final the Edinburgh side Heart of Midlothian beat their Glasgow rivals, Rangers, by two goals to one - Hearts' first major trophy in nearly forty years.

Arsenal last won the League and Cup "double" in 1971.

Among fans watching today's Wembley Final were the Archbishop of Canterbury, George Carey, who supports Arsenal, and the Roman Catholic Cardinal, Basil Hume, a Newcastle fan.
