BBC SPORT | Football | Cambridge 3-1 Reading (original) (raw)

Reading failed to repeat their Worthington Cup heroics of last season as they crashed to defeat against Cambridge at the Abbey Stadium.

The home side dominated the game and winger Shane Tudor was the star, setting up the first two goals before adding the third.

Andy Duncan headed home Tudor's free-kick and his corner in the 37th minute was glanced inside the far post by Dave Kitson.

Reading boss Alan Pardew sent on all of his substitutes for the start of the second half, but it made little difference.

Tudor headed home Kitson's cross after 71 minutes and despite a late Matthew Upson strike, the Royals were never going to fight back.
