Sudan celebrated reaching their second consecutive Cecafa final

Abdelhamid Amarria scored one goal and set up the other as Sudan beat hard-fighting Burundi 2-1 to reach the Cecafa Challenge Cup final in Tanzania.

Sudan will face the winner of Thursday's semi between Uganda and Rwanda in the final on Saturday.

The Sudanese opened the scoring after just two minutes as Amarria ran down the right before crossing for Salfedin Al Idris to find the target.

Burundi responded by pushing forward relentlessly and 10 minutes later Claude Nahimana powered his way through a forest of Sudanese defenders before unleashing a powerful shot from inside the area to draw level.

Amarria restored Sudan's lead on the stroke of half-time with a powerful shot from just inside the box after being set up by Al Idris.

The goal took Amarria's tally to five for the tournament, making him the leading scorer at Cecafa.

Burundi created several chances in the second half but were unable to convert any of them, much to the disappointment of their fans, who had made the long journey to Dar es Salaam.

Sudan reached last year's Cecafa final in Ethiopia, where they lost to guest team Zambia - who were only allowed to take him the prize money leaving the Sudanese with the trophy.

After the match Sudan coach Tagel Abbas was confident his side could go all the way.

"I have watched Rwanda and Uganda play, whoever goes through, we will beat them like we have done Burundi," he said.
