Leonard had led Truro to FA Vase success at Wembley last season

Truro City manager Dave Leonard has resigned in the wake of the club's decision earlier this week not to turn professional next season after all.

Leonard had left a job at Ivybridge Community College to go full-time for the Cornish side, in anticipation of the players doing so this June.

But Truro chairman Kevin Heaney said there was no pressure on Leonard to go.

"I was quite surprised he resigned. He didn't talk to me which I found wasn't very nice," Heaney said.

The former Tiverton Town manager, who led Truro to FA Vase victory at Wembley last season, has not yet spoken about his resignation.

Heaney says while he is sorry to see Leonard go, he is sure he will find a replacement.

"There are many managers in the UK who would love to manage Truro City," he added.

"We are undoubtedly the most successful club in non-league football in the last three years - the record speaks for itself."

In the meantime Truro's director of football Chris Webb will step in as manager until the end of the season, ahead of City's double header at the weekend.

Truro are set to play in the BGB Southern League South & West Division next season, after winning the Western League Premier Division this term.

But with a backlog of fixtures before they can complete the Western League season, they face away trips to bottom club Odd Down on Saturday, and mid-table Melksham Town on Sunday.

Webb told BBC Radio Cornwall: "To try and bring another manager in right at the end of the season wouldn't be good for that person.

"I have been manager before for a long, long time, and since Kevin's been in they've played nine, won eight and drawn one.

"We've just got try and keep in the winning ways over the weekend. We've just got to keep everybody focused - all the players are still focused.

"It can be upsetting, but we've got to get on with it. Onwards and upwards, and let's get six points over the weekend, and carry on as we have been doing."
