Ayr United maintained their promotion push with a narrow win over Alloa Athletic at Somerset Park.

Alloa carved out a chance when Michael McGowan's long-range shot flashed wide of the post.

But the hosts went in at half-time in front due to Ryan McCann's finish from Michael Moffat's cross.

The visitors pressed after the break but were unable to restore parity, meaning they are now nine points below the promotion places.
